Special Weather Statement issued June 11 at 12:39PM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks AK Isolated thunderstorms will develop this afternoon over the higher terrain north and east of Fairbanks, and drift southwest towards Fairbanks, North Pole and Eielson late this afternoon and evening. Some of the thunderstorms will be strong with frequent lightning, brief heavy rain, hail, and winds gusting to 35 mph. The thunderstorms are expected to diminish by midnight. At this time we cant say exactly where the thunderstorms will occur since they will be isolated, but we have good confidence that some will have 1/2 inch hail, winds gusting to 35 mph and brief heavy rain.
